Welcome
The foundation of Catered Affairs began in 1953 with the marriage of Paul Charles Cooney to Margaret Mary Ammar, Paula's parents. Grandma Maggie would get up at the crack of dawn to prepare foods for her husband to take to the PRR shops. Paul kept items warm on radiators at work, sharing them at break time with coworkers. Unfortunately, in 1959, Paul suffered a massive heart attack and passed away leaving four children and a pregnant wife. To support her family, Grandma Maggie sold baked goods to people in the Altoona area. One of the most popular events was 'Cookie Sunday' held the week before Christmas. Clients would visit the Broad Avenue home to sample, purchase and order cookies. Over 600 dozen were sold each year during that week. Never frozen, the cookies were always fresh out of the oven, a standard that is the creed of the business today. The desire to succeed, hard work, high standards of quality, and a love of good home-style cooking were instilled in the family and continue today.

Catered Affairs grew out of this very humble beginning. It is a full-service, off premise, catering company that began in 1984 when friends of the owners Paula and David Binus requested food items to help round out menus for parties and celebrations. Never one to say 'no', the Binuses complied with these requests. While their own children were young, the Binuses prepared these requests on a very limited basis. As their children grew, so did the business. The famous 'cinnamon rolls' for football and soccer players, coaches, and teachers, ham and cheese sandwiches for fundraisers, are all a continuation of the desire to help others.

In 1990, the requests for food items for friends blossomed with phone calls requesting food items for guests that had attended a function catered by Paula and David and staff. These calls have results in a 150% growth of the company. No event is too big or too small. Birthday celebrations, weddings, anniversaries, rehearsal dinners, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, Brazilian Barbeques, Wild Boar Roast, Lebanese dinners, whatever the need, the business simply emerged on its own due to the high standards of quality and service.

The services provided by Catered Affairs would not be possible without great staff. The Binuses feel truly blessed and thankful to their employees who have made the company what it is today and for the many customers they have had the privilege to work with over the years. The staff, along with Paula, David, David, and Erica, donate countless hours to community causes such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Blair County, ARC of Blair County, the Cancer Society, and the Tyrone Senior Center, to name a few.

Catered Affairs is proud to be a member of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce. Looking to the future, our goal is to continue to be committed to ourselves, our employees, our industry and the residents of Blair and surrounding counties by providing high quality food and great service.
